The 9th inning of last night's NY Mets v Atlanta Braves was one of the most excruciating ordeals of the season. here you have a struggling ball club, who is out playing a potential league leader until Terry Collins gave the ball to the NY bull pen. Time after time the Mets have gone down to defeat at the hands of their relief pitching and last night that almost happened again. There were time I had to close my eyes because the pain from watching a gem of a pitching performance by Jon Neise go down the drain.
Luckily the Mets hung on to win 6-5 and gave Neise his 9th win of the season. The issue with the bull pen is the number one reason the Mets will not make the playoffs this year, even with the injuries to the starting pitching, had the pen been at least mediocre the season would be different. LGM
